Nicole M. Scheffler, DDS, MS
Boone, NC
Dr. Scheffler is a strong proponent of evidence-based orthodontics. What she brings to the VectorTAS team is her considerable experience in research and clinical use of miniscrew temporary skeletal anchorage. A Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and in private practice with Dr. Michael Mayhew in Boone, North Carolina, Dr. Scheffler also serves as an orthodontic adjunct associate professor at the University of North Carolina (UNC) where she teaches, researches and oversees cases that utilize temporary skeletal anchorage and self-ligation. She became skilled in temporary skeletal anchorage under the guidance of Dr. Hugo De Clerck in Brussels, Belgium, and Dr. Camilla Tulloch in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She has researched both patient and orthodontist/surgeon implementation perceptions for many types of temporary skeletal anchors and regularly lectures throughout the US on the subject, her focus being the treatment of anterior open bites. Her clinical research is currently being published.
Dr. Scheffler graduated magna cum laude with high honors in chemistry
from Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, and earned her dental
degree from the UNC at Chapel Hill, receiving numerous awards for her
academic, leadership and research accomplishments. She remained at UNC
as an Andrew McArthur Brooks Fellow to earn her master’s degree and
certificate in orthodontics.
Dr. Scheffler has a young daughter and, an avid sports fan, is often found rooting on the UNC Tar Heels or the Appalachian State University baseball team where her husband, Craig, is the pitching coach. At Colgate University she played Division I basketball and was a high jumper and triple jumper on its track and field team.
