A proponent of technological innovation for greater efficiency and effectiveness of care, Dr. Tracey is widely recognized as a pioneer in the design and use of emerging orthodontic technologies, including cone-beam computed tomography. He holds a US patent for an orthodontic device and was the first orthodontist to receive certification from the Academy of Laser Dentistry for the use of soft-tissue lasers. A key member of the team that assisted in the development of Insignia, Ormco’s customized 3D appliance system and associated treatment planning software, he was also integrally involved in the redesign of the company’s premiere aesthetic appliance, Inspire Ice™. He and Dr. Hilgers were early proponents of miniscrew temporary orthodontic anchorage and, in order to ensure its clinical efficacy and develop its recommended protocols, were the first clinicians to volunteer their time and talents to the development of VectorTAS.
Known also for his advocacy of aesthetic treatment, Dr. Tracey is an internationally known lecturer on this and other clinical subjects, having made presentations in 18 countries on six continents and published numerous articles in professional publications. A graduate of Loma Linda University with a BS degree in human biology, he earned his dental degree and master’s degree in orthodontics from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. He manages a busy practice in Upland, California, and has two grown daughters. His insatiable passion for adventure has led him to such diverse places and situations as the jungles of the Amazon, the summit of Mt. Rainier and the finish line of the Ironman Triathlon in Kona, Hawaii.
